USE ME Riot…a possible project

Recently talk has turned to the subject of a possible USE ME title concerning civil disturbance or for the ease of reference ‘USE ME Riots’ after my review of Miniature Wargames magazine which had an excellent article on this subject.  I have given these messages a good deal of thought and I think that its perfectly possible to do a set of miniature rules for riots.  Members of the Notables group suggested not only modern rioters against the police but also mobs against each other such as those seen at Football matches in Europe.  On top of this an add on to do historical riots such as the Gordon Riots of 18th century London or the slave revolts of ancient Egypt.

I have no spare design time until May 2012 but then, if interest persists, I would be willing to pen this title.

Drop me an email on this site or at 15mm.co.uk…heck you could comment on this post too, if you would like to see USE ME Riots become a reality.

  1. Historical riots would be great fun and enlighting, actually the idea of following thro on Dredd, Laserburn stuff, would also be excellent.

    • Thanks for the comments and idea too!

Perhaps the Riot title, if its made, could also have a section for science fiction future riots as well.

I will make a note in my files.

    • Thanks Craig!

Yes, the inclusion of additional rules to cover flash mobs, limited police force use, public reaction and media crews could also be put in without too much extra effort.

  2. I`m very keen on the riot idea, especially the historical aspect. Nice prospect for the Paris mob during the revolution (ooh! a scratch built guillotine and the Scarlet Pimpernel suddenly popped into my brain) and also several outbreaks of revolting peasants (it`s the sprout heavy diet that make them so revolting) in various parts of Europe in the Middle Ages! Huzzah!
As regards modern and “future” riots I like the sound of media crews and public reaction (the latter of which would fit in with historical riots too). Excuse me while I strum my lute to “Anarchy in merrie England”!

    • Hello Roger,

Thanks for your comment. Yes, going from the sheer force of ancient and early modern period riots through the blood of Paris and then onto the ‘media concerned’ limited force of the modern period. Same setting but different ways of dealing with the issue of civil violence.

      Enjoy the lute playing,

  3. Are you aware that Irregular Miniatures already publish a set called Riot?

It grew out of Tusk for 6mm figures and you only get to play the security forces in the original poll tax, Napoleonic, central America and present day periods.

My copy is dated 1995 by the way!

    • Hello Andrew,

Thanks for your comment. No, I was not aware of that. I have not heard of those rules and back in 1995 I was playing Flintloque 1st edition!

There is a lot of interest in this title for USE ME and wargaming is a rich seam with adequate room for many titles even in more specialised areas like civil disturbance.

Perhaps you would like to review the book on your excellent blog as and when it comes out?
