Hussite War Wagons by Mr Roy

A good number of months ago a customer of 15mm.co.uk purchased quite a large number of the medieval Hussite War Wagon sold by 15mm.co.uk. His name is Emmanuel Roy and he has very kindly sent us and allowed me to make use of some great images of his wagons in action.  Today I replaced the image on the 15mm.co.uk website with photos taken by Mr Roy as they are way nicer than what we had.  HUC10 is a white metal kit that can be made up in a variety of ways.  It comes with all the parts needed including horses so you can have this ‘mobile fort’ in motion or static as per your needs.  So with that I chose to put these images on the blog today.

Please note that though 15mm.co.uk sells the Wagon and some of the pictured miniature many are by others makers so keep that in mind if you are searching the Medus Range.

Thanks Mr Roy.  Great pictures and a joy to look at.  You make me rather jealous!

Sam Croes on Asgard Space Marines

My good friend Sam Croes has painted up some of the newly re-released Asgard Science Fiction range which I sent him as a get well soon present earlier this month.  To be frank his skill with a paint brush makes me puke!  Might as well burn all my own at this point 🙂  For more on this classic range see my previous posting.

Asgard 25mm Space Marines (SM3, SM3A, SM9)

Go along to his blog and have a read as to how he painted them and perhaps you can match it with your own efforts.

As for me.  Well I will make do with drooling over the pictures you see here.

Flintloque Character Calculator v2 by Craig Andrews

I like to fill out my Section Rosters for Flintloque by hand but then I did in large part create the 3rd edition of the game and have been playing since the early days of the mid nineteen nineties when pencil and paper were all that was to be had.  However these days many players of the game want to fill rosters digitally or virtually on the screen before printing them out or using them as PDF on a mobile device.  So how do you do that then….

Well wonder no more since web guru and general boss level handy man Craig Andrews (he of Orcs in the Webbe and Barking Irons Online fame) has created something awesome with that very purpose in mind.  A spreadsheet programme that allows rosters to be filled on the screen and then used in play.

The virtual roster covers all you will need in a game of Flintloque that must be filled out and shown from experience levels, weapons, modifiers, names down to notes and player name too.

Go along to the article on Barking Irons Online and download it.  I have given it a go and its spot on!

p.s. Yes, I know this happen a while back but I just got around to it!

Mail Chimp for 15mm.co.uk

Mail Chimp Logo

After some thought and consideration in the last few weeks I have decided that it is time to move 15mm.co.uk across to the use of an Email Marketing and Email List Manager service.  Due to the increase in legislation and also the sophistication of ‘spam’ as well a situation has arisen where we can no longer get out all of the email that our customers want.  With thousands of wargamers to contact about new releases, new games, special events and offers and so on I needed something more.   Why 15mm.co.uk and not Alternative Armies.  Well it is smaller and smaller is better with new ventures in my book!

The internet is a great place for reviews and Mail Chimp came up trumps over and over with extra features and great pricing but what sealed the deal was my best buddy Jim Brittain saying it was the service to choose.  He is an expert in ‘netjitzu’ and I greatly value his opinion on these matters.  While this upgrade will go pretty much unnoticed by most of the wargamers it reaches the change to Mail Chimp will mean more and higher quality HTML email being delivered along with new pages on the 15mm.co.uk website for opting in to the service.

Plus I really liked the company’s cute approach to the subject and the wealth of support material they offered.  Gives me more to read this weekend 🙂

Rob Alderman looks at the Londinium Coach kit

;

My good buddy Rob Alderman has gotten around to doing a video review of one of the most complex and wonderful sets of miniatures that Alternative Armies has ever created – The Londinium Coach.

His video goes over the contents and ideas of this box set and he is rightly bursting with appreciation for the talents of the designer and the quality of the white metal kit and the booklet that comes with it.  I do not own a Coach at this moment but it is on my wants list and once I have assembled enough Albion Orcs to give the Ferach Elves a right kicking I will be getting myself a set of these sweet wheels.

Oh, and to answer Rob’s question in the video, ‘who designed it’ well I came up with the concept and the structure while Edward Jackson did some rough outlines and then the talented Mark Ricketts sculpted all the parts.  You only needed to read the credits on the inside front of the booklet lad!  🙂

Have a watch.

Ray Bradbury a master of Science Fiction dies at 91

Normally I do not comment on the news but I just learned that Ray Bradbury author of more books than you could carry has died at the age of 91.  He had been ill for a long time, that I knew, but in a career that lasted seventy years I came across his work again and again.  From the classic Fahrenheit 451 to lesser known works he always impressed me with the skill and touch of his writing not to mention his boundless imagination.  My personal favourite has to be the collected tales in The Illustrated Man.

If you have never heard of Mr Bradbury then get out from under the rock where you live and get informed.  An excellent author who will be greatly missed.

Winter of ’79 Blog inspires USE ME Modern Warfare players

The Winter of ’79 blog run by my good mate Mark Hannam (the original creator and runner of Dropship Horizon blog) is a fasinating place to visit and makes you feel like you have stepped into an alternate reality.  His passion in creating a world where end of the 1970’s in Britain came out rather differenty is an inspiration and I greatly enjoyed trawling the posts and looking at the pictures (like the ‘mock’ Osprey campaign book cover above…brill!).  But why was I there?  I do not game modern period most of the time.

Well I went along because 15mm.co.uk had half a dozen emails and comments sent to it over the weekend referring to the Winter of 79′ blog along with purchases of our own UM004 USE ME Modern Warfare pocket sized rules system.  It seemed obvious enough to me that wargamers were looking at the blog and then buying USE ME rules for setting their games there in 20mm scale.

Well done Mark!  Great Blog and Great Imagination.  I hope your continued recovery from illness gets you back to full strength.

Slorm reviews UM013 Eldritch Horror rules

UM013 An Eldritch Horror

My friend the wargamer known as Slorm has kindly reviewed UM013 An Eldritch Horror on his great Spanish/English blog called El Rincon de Slorm.

It is a nice little and honest review of the pocket sized rules so have a wee read if the fancy takes you.  Remember you can get a free scenario for these rules from Barking Irons Online too.

Irregular Magazine

Irregular Magazine Issue 12

Earlier this week I noticed a web address on a customer’s invoice from 15mm.co.uk.  That web address was for Irregular Magazine a free quarterly ezine dedicated to all aspects of the wargaming hobby.  So I decided to head on over and have a look at the most recent issue which is number twelve.

Each issue is around the forty four page mark in length and has a theme.  The theme of issue twelve is ‘Heroes and Villains’ and articles within it include fiction, artwork, comics, painting tutorials, reviews and much more all geared towards the mentioned theme.  It was a good read and it was made all the better by being free and being sent direct to my computer by a simple button click.  It took me about an hour to read it through and the layout was very clear and easy to follow.  My favourite part of the magazine was ‘Alaric and the Goths’ by Jason Hubbard (who is also editor of the issue).

I had not been aware of this publication and when time allows I will be browsing the back issues which are all offered online and for free.

Go along and have a look.  I always have a soft spot for the plucky provider and Irregular Magazine is all that is best about wargaming.  It’s got soul.

Chris K tutorial on HOF Fire-Team tiles

Now for tile based action a plenty!

Chris K a fine fellow indeed has posted a tutorial on how to get the most out of your HOF Fire-Team tile sets over on Dropship Horizon.  It is an excellent posting, informative and balanced.  In fact it is so good I intend to link it up to the 15mm.co.uk website so that everyone can read and gain from it.  I also have to thank him for the kind words on the tile sets.  It is appreciated by everyone who worked on the tiles from me to Edward Jackson the artist and also our commercial printer who goes above the call of duty when it comes to our printed products.

So go forth…cut and mount!
